11:30a-1:30p Song Audition Master Class w/ John
Students can bring 32-bar cuts of TWO musical theatre college audition songs, and accompaniment tracks, and John will pick which to work on to focus on song performance. Students should bring headshot and resume and wear comfortable clothing.
1:30p - 3p Lunch Break
3-4:30p Dance Class with Natalie Malotke
Students should wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement and jazz shoes or sneakers, and bring headshot and resume.
4:30p - 5p Meet and Greet + Q+A with CAC alums who are students at PSU
John Simpkins is Professor and Nagle Family Chair of Musical Theatre at Penn State University. He is also a professional director whose work includes The Jonathan Larson Project (Orpheum Theatre) and the three-time Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway production of Bloodsong of Love (by Tony nominee Joe Iconis) at Ars Nova. He also directed world premieres of Iconis shows Love in Hate Nation (Two River) and The Black Suits (Center Theatre Group/ Kirk Douglas), as well as Legendale (Denmark, Human Race – Daly/ Bienstock) and The Raging Skillet (Theaterworks Hartford – Lamarre). His Regional directing includes Weston Playhouse, Sacramento Music Circus, Barrington Stage Company, Engeman Theatre, Lyric Theatre Oklahoma, North Carolina Theatre, and Sharon Playhouse – where we was Artistic Director from 2011-2016. At Penn State, he created and curates a New Works Initiative that commissions NYC writers each year and a wellness center for young artists.
Natalie Malotke is a director, choreographer, creative event producer, and teaching artist. Credits include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Choreography Team on Broadway and National Tour), Bygone Love for China Broadway Entertainment, Candide at Carnegie Hall, I Married an Angel at City Center, and Joy: The Musical (Broadway Developmental Workshop and George Street Playhouse) all alongside Joshua Bergasse. Regional directing and choreography credits at The New London Barn Playhouse, The Engeman, Wagon Wheel, Pittsburgh Music Theatre, Northern Stage, and the national tour of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live!. Resident director and choreographer for Nickelodeon Experience Design events worldwide and Creative Director for the CoComelon Party Time National Tour. TV: Choreography: SNL with Jason Sudeikis and Billie Eilish; PBS, A Capitol Fourth. Faculty at Broadway Dance Center and AMDA.
