Saturday, October 12th 

9a-11:30a Walgreen Drama Center, Towsley Studio
Acting the Song Masterclass
 with Catherine Walker, University of Michigan Professor of Musical Theater and Interim Vice Chair

Bring two college audition songs (1-minute cuts) from Broadway musicals. Catherine will choose one of your songs to work with. Bring sheet music for your cuts - a live accompanist will be provided for the class. Bring a headshot and resume and dress in nice casual, comfortable clothes.

11:30a-1p - Lunch

1p-2:30p Location TBD
Dance Masterclass 
with Ron de Jesús

Students should wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement and jazz shoes or sneakers, and bring a headshot and resume.

There will be time at the end of each class for a Q&A about the University of Michigan program.

2:45p-4:15p Campus Tour with a current musical theater student. They will meet you at the Walgreen Drama Center and show you around.

4:15p-5p The campus tour will end with a Panel Q&A with CAC alums who are current students!

Catherine A. Walker is a professor of music in the Department of Musical Theatre and has worked extensively as a music director, conductor, vocal coach, pianist, educator, and clinician for over 35 years. The University has recognized Walker’s teaching excellence by awarding multiple Gilbert Whitaker Grants for the Improvement of Teaching. Her passion for music education and literacy has led to the creation of a new musical literacy course, which is utilizing new technology as well as online video tutorials as part of a “flipped classroom” model.

Ron De Jesús, who is the founder and director of Ron De Jesús Dance, joined the Department of Musical Theatre as an assistant professor in 2012. De Jesús is the artistic ambassador of Northeastern Illinois University and artistic associate for StagePlays Theater Company in New York. He has received many awards including the New York Musical Theater Festival Award for Excellence for Best Choreography and the Chicago Music & Dance Alliance Award for Best Choreographer.
